Fred Horton's Obituary
Fred Lee Horton was born February 8, 1925 in Smithland, Kentucky. He was the son of Lee Edward and Rose (Campbell) Horton. He passed from this life on September 4, 2017 at the age of 92 years 6 months and 27 days. On September 25, 1958, Fred married Betty Jean Stout of Seymour, IA. To this union three children were born; Terri, Johnnie and Lee. Fred is survived by daughter Catherine Vergato of Somerville, MA, son Fred Lee Johnson (Mary) of Hanson, MA, daughter Terri Hall of McLeansboro, IL, son Johnnie Lee Horton (Chris) of Willmathsville, MO, and son Lee Edward Horton (Debbie) of Corydon, IA, 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, three sister in-laws; Maryann Horton, Carol (Stout) Wymer, and Lavonne McWhorter, one brother in-law Arnold Davis and dear friend Helen Wood. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty in 1992, daughter Freda (Horton) Hurney, infant son Daniel Michael Horton, son in-law Darrell Hall in 2011 and long time companion Joyce Girdner in 2009, infant sister Bertha Horton, sisters; Marjorie Addoline Fires, Nana Catherine Kilpatrick, brothers; James Eldon Horton and Melvin Lynn Horton, sister-in-laws; Bonnie Davis; Joyce Girdner, Marylou Richardson and Beverly Shute, brother in-laws; Elvis Fires, John Kilpatrick, Donald Stout, Eli Girdner, Claude McWhorter, Darl Richardson, and Donald Shute, mother and father in-law Frances (John) Mattly and William Stout. Fred leaves behind many nieces and nephews and lots of loved ones who will miss him dearly. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour, Iowa.
