Fonda Fountain's Obituary
Fonda (Osborn) Fountain, age 84 of Seymour, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Centerville Specialty Care in Centerville.
Fonda was born to Grover and Edna (Lowe) Osborn in Murray, Iowa on January 26, 1933. She was the youngest of eleven children. Fonda attended Bunker Hill Country School until the 7th grade. Then she attended Murray Community School, until the death of her mother on March 10, 1950. At that time, her father sold their farm, and he moved them to Des Moines, Iowa where she attended Lincoln High School.
On July 3, 1953, she married Earl Downs. He passed away on March 24, 1959 in Mason City, Iowa. On November 23, 1957, she was united in marriage to Charles Johnson. He passed away on January 4, 1988 at his home in Seymour, Iowa. On April 16, 1996, she married Enos Fountain in Seymour, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2012.
Fonda gave her heart to the Lord Jesus Christ as a young girl. She attended church at the Trinity Faith Center until it closed in August of 2007. Her door was always open to everyone. She was willing to help anyone who needed it until her health started to fail. Her favorite Bible scripture was Psalms 118:8- 'It is better to trust in the Lord, than to put confidence in man.' Her favorite songs were 'What A Day That Will Be,' ' I Won't Have To Cross Jordan Alone,' and 'Where The Timber's Crossed.'
She is survived by her daughter, Becky Conn of Centerville; a son, Donald Johnson of Corydon; twenty grandchildren; and forty great-grandchildren. She and Enos also adopted Kenny Mathis, Evan Davis, and Nick Perkins as their grandsons.
Fonda was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl Downs, Charles Johnson, and Enos Fountain; her parents, Grover and Edna Osborn; three brothers and six sisters; sons, Rick Downs and Bill Downs; a daughter, Renee Downs; a special son-in-law, Raymond Del Conn; and a special niece, Helen Hulton.
She loved her family and all around her. She loved to crochet afghans, then give them away. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She also collected angels. Fonda had over 200 in her collection. She was also fond of writing poetry and children's stories. Fonda was honored as poet of the year in 2015. She enjoyed being out in the yard in the summer taking care of her flowers and planting more of them.
A visitation will take place Thursday, March 9, 2017, with her family present from 6-7 PM at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville. A graveside committal service at Haines Cemetery will be held at a later date.
