Fleta Mae Ellis' Obituary
Fleta Mae Duncan Ellis was born May 1, 1945 to Lyle and Louise Duncan in Leon, Iowa. She passed away on Monday December 26 at the Wayne County Hospital with her beloved husband Doyle at her side.
Fleta graduated from Lineville Community School in 1963. After graduation she attended beauty school in Des Moines. She met Doyle on a blind double date. From that moment on they were together as much as they could be. Fleta married Doyle Ellis on November 12, 1963. They eloped in Eledo, Illinois with their friends Ken and Jane Johnson on President's Day. They lived in Davenport, Iowa when they had their first son, Mike. Not long after he was born they moved back to Lineville because she was homesick and didn't want to raise him in the city. Mark was born on March 4, 1969. On February 9, 1977 Shonna came along to complete the family.
Fleta and Doyle were active in all their kids activities, which included sports and 4-H. She was a 4-H leader for 25 years, and spent countless hours in the food stand or concession stand at ballgames. She was a member of the Lineville United Methodist Church and served on The We Care Housing Board of Lineville.
She worked at O'Bryan Brother in Leon for a year. Then she cooked at Lineville-Clio Community Schools for 15 years. Being the cook at school was one of her passions because she loved all of those kids. The kids at school chanted "No Fleta No Eata, No Judy No Foodie". After retirement she still indulged her passion of cooking by making cakes and cream cheese mints for all special occasions. She was the chief noodle maker for years for the Lineville Fireman's Banquet.
Once Doyle retired they bought a camper and became snow birds in Texas for 4 years. They decided that being away from the kids and grandkids was to hard, so they decided that camping locally was better suited for them.
Fleta was a true farmer's wife. She loved checking the cows, watching the crops grow, tending her garden and growing beautiful flowers. Playing bridge, crafting and visiting the casino were also some of her favorite things to do.One of her most precious titles was grandma and GG. She would get itchy if she didn't get to keep them and she jumped at the chance for sleepovers. She was so proud of her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Her best days were spent with her family.
Fleta was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Louise Duncan and her in-laws Ira and Vernal Ellis.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 59 years, Doyle; Mike and Jani Ellis of Lineville, Mark and his partner Jonathan of West Des Moines, and Shonna and her fiance Dale Schlangen of Monroe; grandchildren Holly Steele(Daren), Norty Ellis (Sam), Logan and Luke Smith, Kelsie, Kolton, and Lyrik Schlangen. Great grandchildren Hayden Emery and Blair Morgan Steele, Keegan Doyle, Dean Michael and Lillian Ardella Ellis; sister Judy Boyer of Lineville, brother Dick Duncan of Lineville, sister-in-law Lenora Delamater of Chillicothe, MO, Brother-in-laws Elwood (Mary) Ellis of Independence, MO and Rex Ellis of Arlington, along with many nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
