Evelyn Exley's Obituary
Evelyn Exley was born July 31, 1917, in rural Wayne County, Iowa. She was welcomed by her parents Millie and Harley Greer. Evelyn lived her early years in the Clio area until her family moved to Humeston. On December 23, 1938, Evelyn was united in marriage to Laurel Exley at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union they welcomed their children Norman and Diane who were always at the center of their lives. Evelyn was a very dedicated wife, mother, daughter, and friend. Evelyn did office work at the REA in the early years of their marriage, and at one time worked with Laurel hauling lime and rock in southern Iowa. Evelyn eventually started her own business of re-upholstery, and she always took great pride in her work. She had many talents such as crocheting, sewing, refinishing furniture, and enjoyed exploring new craft and sewing projects. In recent years, Evelyn enjoyed quilting and was always interested in sharing her love for quilting with family and friends. She touched many lives throughout the years. Surviving Evelyn are her son Norman, daughter Diane and son-in-law Steve Hoskinson, grandchildren Christina Hoskinson and Amanda Hoskinson, sister Erma Calhoun, brother-in-law and wife William and Jean Exley, sister-in-law Delores Exley, and many nieces and nephews, other family members, and friends. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Laurel, parents, and family members Vernie and Martha Greer, Vergil and Lucille Greer, Wayne and Flossie Greer, Virgil Calhoun, Warren and Lillian Exley, Joe Exley, Jr., and Joanne Exley Lynn.
