Evelyn E. Daniels' Obituary
Evelyn Daniels, age 98 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Friday, December 2, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. She was born February 3, 1913 in Hiattsville the daughter of John and Clara Yetter Hiatt. She married Kenneth Daniels April 18, 1946 at Moravia, IA. She graduated from Moravia High School in 1931, graduated from Simpson College, attended Iowa State Teachers College, and Drake University. She taught country school at Denny and New Hope Country schools. She also taught school in Earlham, Iowa and Centerville, Iowa. Before college, she sold encyclopedias during the depression and worked at a resort in New York. During WWII Evelyn worked at the Ankeny Army Ammunition plant in Ankeny, Iowa. Her family homesteaded in 1846 being one of the first white settlers in Appanoose County. Evelyn and Kenneth farmed all their years south of Moravia, raising cows, chickens and pigs. She was known as a swine expert. Additionally, she was a Sunday school teacher at Wesley Chapel and Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Women's Society of Christian Service (WSCS)
Surviving are 3 sons, Eugene K. (Alta) Daniels of Moravia, Lawrence J. (Darlene) Daniels of Pekin, IL, Kevin D. (Rebecca) Daniels of West Des Moines, Iowa; 7 grandchildren Bryan (Melanie) Daniels of Moravia, Carla (Dennis ) Tripp of West Des Moines, Steven (Misty) Daniels of Newton, Iowa, Brett (Becky) Daniels of Monroe, Iowa, Eric (Jessica) Daniels of Boutin, Iowa, Kimberly (Jason) Bowles of Shueyville, Iowa, Meagan Daniels of West Des Moines; Great grandchildren Rylee Daniels, Jaymee Daniels, McKenzie Tripp, Delaney Tripp, Quintin Daniels, Caelan Daniels, Abraham Daniels, Ruth Daniels, Miriam Daniels, Matthew Bowles, Step Great Grandchildren Rena Robison of Moravia, and Lena Robison of Moravia, and a sister Juanita Dooley of Moravia.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, parents, one sister Goldie Cornelius and her husband, one daughter-in-law Paulette Daniels and a brother in law Virgil Dooley and a sister in law Lucille Daniels.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, December 5, 2011 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa with Pastor Kim Finn officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 PM at the Lange Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Deny Cemetery, south of Moravia. Memorials have been established to Grace Methodist Church, Moravia or the Denny cemetery and may be mailed to the Lange Funeral Home, 103 North John St. Moravia, Iowa.
