Eugene Dale Riley's Obituary
Eugene Dale Riley, the son of Dolph and Nellie (Corbett) Riley, was born February 18, 1921, near Allerton, Iowa. He passed away April 19, 2016 at Wayne County Hospital at the age of 95 years from congestive heart failure, with his wife by his side. His parents and he lived on a farm west of Corydon, until 1935 when they left the farm and moved into Corydon. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force from January 4, 1943 until February 25, 1946. He was stationed stateside as a mechanic on vehicles, and was serving as a Sergeant when honorably discharged. Eugene was quite proud of his military service. He was a member of the Corydon American Legion Post #68 for 68 years. Eugene was united in marriage to Dorothy Ivins on July 31, 1954. Eugene and Dorothy lived all of their 61 married years in Corydon. Eugene was a mechanic at the Whiteley Chevrolet Garage for several years and he then went into carpentry business, helping to build many homes in and around Corydon. Carpentry is what he enjoyed the most. Gene enjoyed helping the Corydon American Legion with their activities as long as his health permitted. Eugene was known to many of his family and friends as "Gene". He and Dorothy enjoyed time with one another and they loved to travel, dance and listen to Country Western music. They went to Branson several years while their health permitted and enjoyed the shows there. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Dolph and Nellie Riley, and Dorothy's parents, Ben and Vera Ivins, and sister and brother-in-law, George and Wilma Griffin. Eugene is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, daughter Diana Kuehne and husband Lloyd, grandchildren; Craig Kuehne and wife Samara and their daughter Elliot, Jennifer Davis and husband Michael and their daughter Riley, all in California, niece, Barbara Kent and husband Mike, and their three sons; Jonathan Kent and wife Bridgett and their two children Chad and Samantha, Patrick Kent and wife Kari and their son Brady, and Jason Kent and wife Angie and their children Kolt, McKenna, Maggie May and Cerah Jo. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Thomas-Randolph Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will immediately follow in Corydon Cemetery with full military rites performed by Russell E. Marshall American Legion Post #68. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Prairie Trails Museum of Wayne County, Wayne County Hospital or Russell E. Marshall American Legion in Corydon Post #68.
