Eudean Lord's Obituary
Eudean Lord, 95, of Corydon passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 at Wayne County Hospital in Corydon. Eudean was born on May 29, 1921 on the family farm east of Promise City to Harold & Blanche (Wolfinger) Lord. He attended grade school at Nip and Tuck School and graduated from Promise City High School in 1938. Eudean was baptized at the Promise City Methodist Church and continued to attend there until transferring membership to Corydon United Methodist Church in 2009. Eudean began working on the family farm after graduation until he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1941. He was stationed at Sandy Hook, New Jersey, Manhattan Beach and Staten Island. Eudean served on the U.S.S. Ricketts in the Pacific (Wake Islands, Kwajalein Islands and Hawaii). On January 25, 1943, Eudean was united in marriage to Marietta Jane Bear in Des Moines while on leave from the United States Coast Guard. The two returned to New Jersey until the end of the war and lived in Highlands, New Jersey. They returned to his family farm near Promise City in 1945 and were blessed with two children, Anita and Gary. This year marked their 73rd wedding anniversary. Eudean farmed for several years and worked construction on the side. In 1956, Eudean and Gerald Long founded the Ski-Vu-Roller Rink in Corydon and operated it until 1973. After operating Ski-Vu-Roller Rink, Eudean started a construction company in Wayne County where he built and remodeled hundreds of homes. Eudean and Marietta enjoyed traveling later in life. They visited every state in America except Alaska and Hawaii. They enjoyed winters in Mesa, Arizona. Eudean told jokes at many jam sessions in Promise City and also at Rathbun Country Music Theatre, he became known as the "Promise City Storyteller". He and Marietta attended shows for 38 years. They were parade marshals in the Promise City Fun Days in 2001 and also attended all of the Promise City High School Alumni Reunions. Eudean was a member of the Russell E. Marshall American Legion Post #68 in Corydon. Eudean sold the family farm in 2009 and moved to Corydon. They lived in at Elgin apartments for 3 years, then moved to Murphy's Place assisted living for several years before entering in to Corydon Specialty Care. Survivors include his wife Marietta of Corydon, children: Anita Wells (Bill) of Corydon, Gary Lord (Kathy) of Tucson, AZ, four grandchildren; Andrea Martin (Eric) of Marion, Iowa, Ryan Wells (Susan) of Amherst, MA, Scott Lord of Tucson, AZ and five great grandchildren; Cole Martin, Trey Martin, Alexa Martin, Miguel Wells and Lewis Wells. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Brian Lord. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2016 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will immediately follow in Promise City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday at Thomas Funeral Home.
