Ethel Leola Curtis' Obituary
Ethel Leola (Poe) Curtis went to be with the Lord at the age of 99.
Ethel was born on May 14, 1921 in University Park, Iowa, the daughter of Pearl Poe and Myrtle (Brown) Poe. She was married to her loving husband, Eston D. Curtis on February 24, 1938. She and Eston lived in a small cabin on the Chariton River near Iconium until 1939. They came to Promise City and lived in the same little house for 77 years.
Ethel was a member of the Promise City Church of Christ. She was a loving wife to Eston for 75 years, an amazing mother to their 9 children, and loving grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She and Eston ran a greenhouse for a time. Ethel loved to garden both flowers and vegetables. She loved to read books, was a great embroiderer, and a very good cook. Her family was very important to her, and she was a Christian example to them and all who knew her.
Ethel is survived by her sons; Gene, Lloyd, David, and Tim; daughters, Joan Galbreath, Thelma Curtis and Ella Elaine Recoy; 25 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Thompson.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Eston; an infant son, Robert; daughters, Virginia Corbett and Arlene Nichols-Easton; great grandson, Josh Corbett; parents, Pearl and Myrtle Poe; brothers, Roy, James, Pearl Jr., Melvin and Winfield; and a sister, Elsie Morrow.
Private funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ in Promise City, Iowa with Rev. Bob Thompson Jr. officiating. A public graveside service will take place at approximately 11:15 AM, Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at the Promise City Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Family of Ethel Curtis, to be determined at a later date, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
