Erma L. Mcghghy's Obituary
Erma Louise McGhghy, age 78 of Ottumwa, Iowa passed away March 5, 2009, at her residence in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Erma was born October 19, 1930, the daughter of Howard and Iva (Wages) Ross in Centerville, Iowa. In her childhood years she attended Exline Schools. On December 31, 1945 she married Oscar McGhghy in Ottumwa. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2005. Erma was employed as a houskeeper at Stardust Motel, Ottumwa Regional Hospital, and then retired from Ottumwa Mannor. She was an active church member of the Turning Point Assembly of God in Ottumwa. Erma enjoyed activities that revolved around her family, especially the times she played Yatze with her husband Oscar. She also enjoyed cooking and playing cards, especially Skip-Bo.
Erma is survived by her children, Diana (Gerald) Lemke of Downing, MO, Daniel (Mikki) McGhghy of Des Moines, Iowa, Jo Ann Blomgren of Ottumwa, Michael (Tammie) McGhghy of Newton, Iowa, David (Alicia) McGhghy also of Newton, and Timothy (Misslea) McGhghy of Des Moines; twenty-eight grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sister in-laws, Ruby Shadduck and Panzi Higgenbottam, both of Marengo, Iowa; two sisters, Pauline Shields of California, and Lorraina Bell of Rock Island, Illinois; two brothers, Joe Ross of Macon, MO and Bill (Carolyn) Ross of Des Moines; and one adopted son, Larry (Linn) McDowell of Keokuk, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Monday, March 9, 2009 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Rev. William McGhghy officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, Iowa. A visitation will be held Sunday from 4-6 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family and may be left at or mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
