Emogene Leeper's Obituary
Emogene Leeper, age 84 of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.
Emogene was born on July 21, 1932 in New Boston, Missouri, the daughter of Clarence and Melvina (Liebhart) McCollum. She graduated high school from Shelby High School in Shelby, Missouri. She then attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri.
Emogene worked at McGraw Edison for a few years. She then went to work for Sears before accepting employment with Ben Franklin on the Centerville Square, a position she would maintain for twenty years until its closing.
She was very close friends with the Janet and Tom Demry family. She was also very fond of her neighbors throughout the years. She enjoyed eating at George and Nick's in Centerville. Mostly, she loved her cat, Muffin.
Emogene is survived by her niece, Mary Etta (Fred) Bailey of Kenosha, Wisconsin; a nephew, Jim (Deb) Bailey of Medford, Oregon; two great nephews, David (Laura) Bailey of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Richard Bailey of Medford, Oregon; as well as numerous friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Melvina McCollum; a sister, Ella Mae Bailey; and a great niece, Amanda Bailey.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held from 5-7PM, Friday, April 14, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville. A graveside service will take place 11AM, Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Nester Chapel Cemetery in Linn County, Missouri. Memorials have been established to either the Centerville American Legion, Post #0214 (to go towards cemetery honors) or to Nester Chapel Cemetery and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
