Elwood Brayton's Obituary
Elwood ""Woody"" Brayton age77, of Cincinnati, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Woody was born January 13, 1930, the son of Oscar Jay and Ruth (Dunn) Brayton in Burwell, Nebraska. He married Betty Darlene Stewart on October 27, 1956 at the First Baptist Church in Centerville, Iowa. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2002. Woody managed a Cattle Ranch in Texas for seven years and was a farmer all his life. At age 60, Woody decided to get his GED so he could come home and work for the USDA as a meat inspector. He also held various positions including being a Deacon at the church, an usher, and helping with Sunday School. Woody loved working outside and playing horseshoes. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Woody is survived by a son Tim (Robin) Brayton of Cincinnati, Iowa; a daughter, Margaret ""Micki"" (Eric) Seat of Centerville, Iowa; grandchildren, Megan Messamaker, Trent Brayton, and Wyatt Seat all of Centerville, Iowa; three great grandchildren; and a brother Bud Brayton of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; and parents, Oscar and Ruth.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday June 10, 2007 at the First Baptist Church, Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Mystic, Iowa. A visitation will be held Saturday all day at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 PM. A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
