Elmer Lee Cox's Obituary
Elmer Lee Cox, age 95, of Moulton, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at his daughter's home in Fruitland, Iowa surrounded by his family. He was born the son of Dr. Elmer Lee, Sr. and Winifred 'Winnie' (Childs) Cox on August 18, 1917 in Glenwood, Missouri. He graduated from the Moulton Community High School in 1935. On August 15, 1939, Elmer Lee was united in marriage to Mary Ellen McConville in Centerville, Iowa. He farmed for many years near Moulton, Iowa and owned the Cox grocery store in Moulton. They moved to Moulton IA after a fire destroyed their home on the farm in 1947. Elmer Lee was an avid sports fan and was a season ticket holder of the Hawkeye football team. He enjoyed watching all of his children play sports. Elmer Lee also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by: his parents and his wife, Mary Ellen Cox on August 8, 1999. Elmer Lee is survived by: his sons, Dr. John Cox and his wife, Gloria of Tucson, Arizona and Ronald Cox and friend, Barb Rohlf of Grimes, Iowa; daughters, Nancy Lynch and her husband, Larry of Bloomfield, Iowa and Margaret Elaine 'Muffi' Harmon and her husband, Dan of Fruitland, Iowa; a sister, Hortense Hoffman of Des Moines, Iowa; along with nine grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa with burial to follow in the Sunset View Cemetery north of Moulton. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 26, 2013 from 1 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home and the family will be present from 5 pm until 8 pm.
