Elmer Atkinson's Obituary
Elmer L. Atkinson, 78 of Cincinnati, passed away Friday, February 5, 2016 at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville following a brief illness. Elmer was born to Harry & Naoma (Jennings) Atkinson on November 4, 1937 at home in Centerville Iowa. He attended Centerville Public Schools. On June 5, 1960 he was united in marriage to Janet M. Brown, two daughters were born to this union, they later divorced. Elmer was employed at Steele Packing Plant in Centerville as a meat cutter and also worked as a farmer in the area all of his life. In his early life he raced stockcars with his brothers, he also enjoyed cattle buying, reading, playing pool, cards and attending music festivals. Survivors include two daughters: Rhonda Johnson of Auburn, NE, Cathy Atkinson of Auburn, NE, granddaughter, Chelsea Johnson of Lincoln, NE, six siblings: W.M. "Bill" F. Atkinson (Pat) of Rockford, IL, Betty Whicker of Moravia, Lonnie Atkinson of Centerville, Velma Evans of Centerville, Bobby Atkinson (Pat) of Centerville, Larry Atkinson (Debbie) of Cincinnati and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Harry Atkinson and Bonnie Beach. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Engle officiating. Interment will be in Livengood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, February 12, 2016 at Thomas Funeral Home.
