Ellis Edward Brown Ellis Edward Brown was born September 4, 1940 in Promise City, Iowa to Laurel and Geneva Brown. He passed away on March 5, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 70 years. Ellis attended Hickory Ridge Country School in the Promise City area. He then graduated from Seymour High School in 1958. He was baptized at the Christian Church at Seymour. Ellis married Sandra Cobb on May 19, 1961 at the Baptist Church in Corydon, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Michael Wayne, Larisa Kae, and Tony Ray. Ellis worked on area farms during high school. He went to work at Mickey's Grocery store in Seymour, Iowa and also worked at Zell Park's Auto Shop. In 1965 Ellis began working for Machine Products and eventually Shivvers, Inc. in 1968, until he was unable to work due to his health. He later received a heart transplant in 1996 and became a donor after his death. Ellis also tied fishing lures for his in-laws' business, Old Favorite Bait Company. Ellis loved having his children and grandchildren stop by for a visit and he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sports activities. He loved to read. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Ellis and his family spent many summers at the same campsite in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. Survivors are his wife of almost 50 years, Sandra, son Mike and wife Jan of Humboldt, daughter Larisa and husband Steve Allen of Corydon, and son Tony of Leon; seven grandchildren: Jamie, Lindsey, and Devin Brown, Brent and Jace Allen, and Alex and Mason Brown. He is also survived by five sisters: Bernita and husband Rod Simonson, Jan and husband Wayne Hancox, Joy and husband Carroll Gordy, Lois and husband Robert Ziegler, and Elaine and husband James Welch, and brother-in-law Lawrence Baker, mother-in-law Mildred Cobb, brother-in-law Larry Cobb, sisters-in-law Sharon and husband Jim Dunn, Janis and husband Steve Thatcher, and Gayle and husband Bobby Wasson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, brother Allen Brown, sister DeVee Baker, father-in-law Theodore Cobb, and brother-in-law Howard Cobb. He is very much loved and will be greatly missed.
