Elizabeth 'Betty' Dhority's Obituary
Elizabeth 'Betty' Dhority, age 75, of Moravia, Iowa passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Centerville Specialty Care in Centerville.
Betty was born August 15, 1941 in Centerville, IA, the daughter of Spencer and Esther (Elder) King.
She first attended Unionville Grade School and later graduated from Moravia High School in 1959. In high school she worked at the Moravia Union newspaper. It was also during this period of time that she started dating the love of her life, Gary Dhority.
Betty married Gary on June 5, 1959 in Unionville, Iowa. Together the couple owned and operated Moravia Printing Company from 1977 to the present.
Betty loved playing the piano and organ and taught piano and organ lessons. She played the piano at the Unionville Baptist Church during high school, and then continued playing the organ at E.U.B. Church in Moravia. She also spent many years teaching both wood carving and tole painting at Paint and Primitives in Centerville.
She was very active in the Moravia community throughout her lifetime. Betty was a Past Matron of Rainbow in Moravia, as well as a past President of the Moravia Garden Club. She was also very active in helping with the Moravia Tour of Homes for many years.
Betty attended the Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene in Moravia.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Dhority of Moravia, Iowa; two daughters, Julie Dhority of Moravia, and Jayne (Richard) Gibb of Moravia; 2 grandchildren, Alyssa (Jeff) Prater of Moravia, and Ashley (Kristopher) Miller of Ankeny, Iowa; as well as 2 great grandchildren, Layla and Eliza Prater.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 PM, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. The family will be greeting friends on Wednesday at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia from 1-3 PM. An inurnment will be held at a later date in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia. Memorials have been established to the Moravia Betterment Committee and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
