Elizabeth "Betty" Belloma's Obituary
Elizabeth "Betty" A. Belloma, age 84, of McGregor, Iowa, formerly of Waterloo, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Crossing Rivers Health Center in Prairie Du Chein, Wisconsin.
Betty was born on March 24, 1939 in Jerome, Iowa, the daughter of Steve (Max) and Anna (Yonavich) Zemo. She graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1957. During her high school years, Betty played Basketball, and loved it. On June 10, 1961, Betty was united in marriage to Donald F. Belloma at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville. To this union, two children were born, Lisa and Steve.
Following high school graduation, Betty began working as a Nurse's Aide for Centerville Hospital. In 1959, she moved to Waterloo and started her employment with Allen Hospital as a Nurse's Aide. When her children were young, Betty took time off of work to raise her family. Once the kids were in their late high school years, she began working at the Steamboat for a period of time. She then started at "Mom's Meals On Wheels" and continued there until retirement.
In her younger years, Betty was an avid bowler, and received many awards for over 600 series. She also loved the outdoors and fishing with her husband, Donnie, but her favorite was always spending time with her family and friends. She resided in Waterloo for over 60 years, before moving to the Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa in 2023. Betty is now at peace, and reunited with her husband, Donnie, the love of her life.
Left to cherish Betty's memory are her children, Lisa Ann (Jim) Meyer of McGregor and Steve F. (Kim) Belloma of Newton; three grandchildren, Richard Sadler, Anne Sadler and Tristan Meyer; two step grandchildren, Chelsie Crady and Ashley Crady; six step great grandchildren, Grahm, Olivia, Harrison, Stella, Boston and Hudson; as well as several extended family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Anna Zemo; her husband, Donald F. Belloma; and her brother, Richard Lee Zemo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, August 26, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville with Fr. Timothy Armbruster, C.P.P.S. officiating. Cremation will follow the service, and burial will take place at a later date at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will take place Friday, August 25, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 5:00-7:00PM. A Rosary service will be held at 5:00PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
