Eliga Koziol's Obituary
Eliga Koziol, 92, of Centerville passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 at Centerville Nursing & Rehab. Eliga was born on June 9, 1922 to Michael & Josephine (Klotz) Koziol in Mystic, Iowa. He attended Mystic Schools. Eliga's school days were cut short when he took a job working in the coal mines. On April 30, 1955 Eliga was united in marriage to Virginia DeBoule in Mystic. Eliga was a heavy equipment operator for L&W Quarry for many years. Eliga had a strong work ethic; he often worked day and night so Virginia was able to stay home and take care of their children. Eliga was a member of St. Francis and St. Mary's Catholic Church's for over 80 years and also a Knights of Columbus member. Eliga enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing were a joy to him when time allowed. He also really enjoyed trains and railroading. Eliga was a son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be missed dearly by his survivors now that he has joined Virginia in heaven. Survivors include three children: Kathleen Summy (Kelly) of DeSoto, Kristina McNeish (Jim) of Iowa City, David Koziol of Ankeny, three grandchildren; Jonah, Elijah and Seth McNeish of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Koziol, son, Bernard Koziol, siblings: John Koziol and Mary Langford. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Hubmann officiating. Interment will be in Haines Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, October 27, 2014 at Thomas Funeral Home with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
