It was my great pleasure to serve as a colleague with Ellie. The years she served in the Parsons District she gave her compassion, her care for all people, her commitment to social justice for those living in the margins, along with her contagious smile and positive spirit. With her determination, Wesley House grew in spirit and service. Ellie made a difference through her ministry in many places. Ellie was an angel, a diligent servant of God. She was passionate about the important ministries of small rural churches, and we appreciated her friendship so very much. Ellie interned as a Church and Community Worker at The Twin Valley Parish in the Fredonia, Kansas area and served with my late husband, Rev. George D. Almquist there in the early to mid 1970's. I still treasure the quilling pictures she made for us and have them hanging in a prominent place in my home. My children and I remember her teaching us the art of quilling, the love of life, and outdoors and nature. Her engaging smile and twinkling eyes were beautiful! Ellie always made me smile & being able to keep her sense of humor & equilibrium while working at Wesley House amazed me. But I don't think she saw it as work--it was her calling & mission. She epitomized what a minister should be. We need more Ellie's in this world, especially now. My condolences to her family--although we've missed her here, I'm so glad she was able to spend the last couple of years with you. Just wish it could have been much longer. Ellie had this cray humor which would take tension out of a group at the very critical times. She was honored as one of Pittsburg's honored women with her picture being in a calendar.
