Edmund Janicke's Obituary
Edmund Joseph Janicke, age 87, of Centerville died of complications of Cancer and congestive heart failure, Wednesday October 20, 2004 at Centerville Nursing and Rehab, Centerville, three weeks shy of his 88th birthday.
He was born on November 10, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois to his parents Joseph and Josephine (Grajek) Janicke. He was the only son in a family of four children.
Edmund (or Ed as he liked to be called) married Dorothy Virginia Biggest on April 3, 1938 and had been married for 66 years. Ed and Dorothy had two children- a son, Gerald and a daughter, Joanne. Ed and Dorothy moved to Centerville from Chicago in 1965 when Ed was chosen as one of the members of the management team sent to open the then newly constructed Union Carbide Corporation plant currently owned by Curwood Industries. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Centerville. He retired from Union Carbide in 1978 as the plants Chief of Safety with over 41 years of service.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Josephine; sisters; Dorothy Rupp and Florence Sliwa. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Centerville; younger sister, Marceline of the Chicago area, son Gerald Janicke and his wife Ann of Centerville, daughter Joanne Davis and her husband Mark of Brooklyn, Iowa, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 11 am, Saturday, October 23, 2004 at Thomas Lange Funeral Home with Fr. Ron Will C.PP.S officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 25, 2004 at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. A memorial has been established to Centerville Nursing & Rehab, which can be left at or mailed to Thomas Lange Funeral Home 1900 S. 18th St. Centerville, Ia 52544.
