Edith Guffey's Obituary
Edith Guffey, age 89 died Saturday July 9, 2005 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville, Iowa.
She was born on December 9, 1916 the daughter of William and Ethel (Green) Leopard in Camdon, Arkansas. She married William L. Guffey on March 17, 1934. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include five sons; William L. Guffey Jr. of Ottumwa, Norman L. Guffey of Centerville, Ralph L. Guffey of Kentucky, Ronald L. Guffey of Numa and Dale L. Guffey of Fairfield; three daughters, Ethel L. Thomas of Tennessee, Bonnie L. Brassfield of Nevada and Virginia L. Baxter of Pella, 31 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Dolly Himes, Gladys Finks, LeVaughn Dudley and Pansy Irving; two brothers, Harold Leopard and one on infancy; two grandsons, James L. Guffey and Bradley C. Guffey; and one great-grandson, Zachary C. Guffey.
Edith was well-known throughout the area for her wallpaper hanging, painting, rug weaving and quilt making. She will be remembered as strong- willed and determined. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grand, great and great-great grandchildren.
Her body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 14, at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home with Rev. Kay Singley officiating. Her cremains will be interred at the Crossroads Cemetery on Highway 2 west. A memorial has been established to the Golden Age Care Center and Hospice and may be left at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home 1900 S. 18th St. Centerville, Iowa 52544.
