Edison "Ed" Kozak's Obituary
Edison 'Ed' Kozak, 85 of Centerville, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 in Long term care at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. He was born on October 1, 1928 in Yankton, South Dakota the son of Joe and Alice(Sparks) Kozak. He was educated in the Yankton, South Dakota School District. Ed and his family lived in Yankton until they moved to Centerville in 1965.Ed was united in marriage to Edna E. Stickler in Yankton, South Dakota; After her death on July 4, 1996, he was united in marriage to Garnet Deahl on March 20, 1999 in West Des Moines, Iowa. She died on November 23, 2007. Ed farmed much of his life in South Dakota and worked at the State Hospital in Yankton as a nurses aid. After he moved to Centerville he worked at the Box Factory, McGraw Edison and retired from Voltmaster in Corydon. He is survived by his children, Jeanie Pontious and her husband, Bob of Centerville, Iowa, Wayne Kozak and his wife Sally of Des Moines, Iowa, Debbie McDanel and her husband, Randy of Moravia, Iowa, Tena Haughdahl and her husband, Brad of St. Peter, Minnesota and Rita Marchand and her husband, Eugene of Chesterfield, Virginia; Step Daughter, Judy Lunkley and her husband, Jim and step Son John Deahl his wife, Karla of Unionville, Iowa; ten Grandchildren and seventeen, great grandchildren and sisters, Clara Bombas of Tyndall, South Dakota and Patty Sudbeck of Wynot, Nebraska. In death, Ed joins his parents (Joe and Alice); and a sister Marie Brown. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Dr. Randy Ehrhardt officiating. Burial will follow in the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013 from 1 pm until 8 pm with the family present from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Mercy Medical Center "Long Term Care"or Mercy Hospice and left or mailed to the funeral home.
