Earl E. Brooke, 86 of Centerville passed away Sunday, October 7, 2007 at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Earl was born near Unionville, Iowa to Leonard & Anna(Coop) Brooke on April 29, 1921. He married Catherine McDade on May 3, 1939 in Bloomfield, IA, she preceded him in death on January 1, 1985. Earl was an independent truck driver and a farmer. He retired from trucking in 1984. Earl married Shirley Rumans on March 11, 1989 in Unionville, Iowa. He enjoyed dancing, hunting, farming, collecting tractors, visiting with people, time spent with his family and dog (Ginger). Earl is survived by his wife Shirley Brooke of Centerville, daughter, Joan Denney of Oskaloosa, three step-daughters; Judy Sandstrom(Jerry) of Chanhassen, MN, Vicky Strickler(Dennis) of Moravia, Cindy Penfield(Tim) of Indianola, IA, two grandsons; Bryan Haskell(Denise) of Grinnell, IA, Brent Haskell(Kelly) of Fullerton, CA, seven step-grandchildren; Billy Strickler(Brandi) of Libertyville, IA, Marci Kraber(John) of Libertyville, IA, Jacob Strickler of Moravia, Sara Penfield of Indianola, IA, Garrett Penfield of Indianola, Lacey Penfield of Indianola, four great grandchildren; Morgan Haskell of Grinnell, Brittney Haskell of Grinnell, Brooke Haskell of Fullerton, CA, Bradley Haskell of Fullerton, CA, a step-great grandson, Jaxon Strickler of Libertyville, IA, two sisters; Bernice Harris of Moulton, Mildred McHargue(Bill) of Moulton and a brother Vern Brooke(Marilyn) of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Catherine and a sister Mary Brooke. Visitation will be all day Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Thomas Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m.. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Reg Higginbottom officiating. Interment will be in Sunset View Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Moulton Christian Church or Hospice of Monroe County which may be left at or mailed to Thomas Funeral Home - 23548 Hwy 5 - Centerville, Iowa 52544.
