Earl "Richard" Dwyer's Obituary
Earl 'Richard' Dwyer, age 79, of Moravia, Iowa, died Monday, April 12, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born the son of Earl and Sylvia (Pearson) Dwyer on August 12, 1930 in Orient, Iowa. He graduated from the Richland Consolidated Schools near Orient.In 1952, Richard served his country in the U.S. Army Artillery Branch where he was awarded a National Defence Service Medal during the Korean Conflict and was later honorably discharged in 1954. On June 17, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Haines in Fontanelle, Iowa. Richard began his career working for Coca Cola and later for Purolator Company from 1961 until 1974 when he began working for White Farms in Charles City, Iowa. Then in 1980, Richard became the Operations Manager for Vanmark Company in Creston, Iowa until he retired in 1993. He was a 50 year member of the Antiquity Lodge of Moravia, Iowa; a member of the VFW Post #1797 in Creston, Iowa; member of Iconium Methodist Church and the Appanoose Country Club. One of Richard's passions was his love for the 'Iowa Hawkeyes'. Richard was also a past member of the Rathbun Lake Association.He was preceded in death by: his parents; three sisters, Vinice Buckner, Delvian Stuva and Dolores Webster; a grandson, Richard E. Shimer.Richard is survived by: his wife, Marilyn Dwyer of Moravia, Iowa; two daughters, Karla Dwyer of Kirksville, Missouri and Karyn and her husband, Charles Shimer of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brother-in-law Dan and his wife, Elaine Haines of Creston, Iowa; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Shimer of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Jerry Morrison officiating. Burial of ashes will be held at a later date in Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 from 1 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm.Memorials can be made to the Iconium United Methodist Church or Masonic Lodge of Moravia and can be left at the funeral home.
