Irene Fowler, age 95 of Moravia, Iowa died Saturday, August 12, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa.
She was born on Easter Sunday, April 23, 1916 (on her father's 23rd birthday) near Main Station, Appanoose County, Iowa to Ivan Glenn and Birdie (Brown) Main. Irene married Glen Clifford Fowler on April 22, 1939 in Albia, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1989. Irene taught in the rural schools. She also helped with farming and was a cook in her later years. Irene was employed in manufacturing with two factories, Johnson Barber Supply and Monroe Plastics.
She was a member of the Iconium Christian Church, Moravia Christian Church, and attended the Grace Methodist Church in Moravia. Irene was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Her hobbies included sewing and gardening.
Irene is survived by one daughter, Loraine (Ron) McCaleb of Rochester, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Dustin (Rhoda) McCaleb of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Tony McCaleb of Rochester, Minnesota, and Lori McCaleb of Rochester, Minnesota; and four great grandchildren; and two brothers, Gaylord (Marjorie) Main of Moravia, Iowa, and Dwight Main of Des Moines, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter Lois Fowler; brothers Eugene and Herbert Main; and a sister Opal VanDorin.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM, Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa with Pastor Dustin McCaleb officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Thursday at Lange Funeral Home from 10:30-11:30. Memorials have been established to the Long Term Care Unit at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville and may be left at Lange Funeral Home. Condolences may be left online at www.langefh.com.
