Dwayne Dewey Enright's Obituary
Dwayne Dewey Enright of Corydon, Iowa passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at the Corydon Specialty Care Center in Corydon, Iowa. He was 91 years of age.
Dwayne was born on January 6, 1931 to Dewey and Opal (Smith) Enright in Harvard, Iowa. He grew up in a family of all boys. He and his brothers, Elmer and Delmar, loved fast cars. They even competed in stock car races. Ford was his choice of manufacturers; his son and grandson inherited this love.
Dwayne went to country school in Harvard through the eighth grade. He worked for area farmers and the Grismore Turkey Farms. When he was old enough, he started driving a truck for Raymond Bishop. In 1951, Dwayne was drafted into the Army. He served in the Korean War, where he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. After recovering, he returned to Corydon and took ownership of the Sinclair gas station. His next career move was to the Mitchell Ford Dealership where he was a radiator technician. In 1962, Dwayne started work for the Iowa Department of Transportation, from which he retired in 1991.
On May 28, 1952, while on leave from the Army, he married Erma Jean Terrell at the Christian Church in Corydon. Dwayne and Erma enjoyed over 70 years together. Traveling all over the country together, along with their grandchildren, is their favorite memory. Dwayne and Erma never missed an athletic event that involved their son, grandkids, or great-grandkids. They are known to a lot of kids as Grandma and Grandpa Enright. It was a tradition the last few years to wave to all of the cars of kids going to the elementary school each morning.
Survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife, Erma Jean, son Steven Enright (Cindy) of Corydon; grandchildren, Andrea McConahay (Brad) of Corydon, Angela Buban (Robert) of Mystic, Iowa, Michael Enright (Breann) of Corydon; great-grandchildren, Gabriella Buban of St. Joseph, Missouri, Ryan McConahay of Maryville, Missouri, Spencer Buban of Mystic, Iowa, Justin McConahay of Corydon, Cutler Buban of Mystic, and Sam Enright of Corydon; special friend, Susie DeVore of Corydon; and a host of extended family and friends.
