Dug Fetters Obituary's Obituary
On March 1, 2015 the world got just a little quieter as Douglas Dwight Fetters joined his Lord and Savior. 'Dug' was born to Dwight & Barb (Williams) Fetters on March 5, 1960 in Leon, Iowa. He attended Seymour Community High School. Wherever he went, you'd hear him singing. He enjoyed singing country and gospel music to the residents at the Unionville and Corydon care centers. You could often find him jammin' with his mom in Promise City and various other local jams. He'd always say, 'It doesn't matter how well you sing, as long as you sing loud.' Growing up, Dug spent a lot of time with his grandfathers and uncles. From them, he learned how to work draft horses. Later in his life he used this gift as a teamster for good friends Cindy & Mark Salsberry and Terry & Janice McElvain. A true cowboy, he inherited his passion of bull riding from his older brothers. He was a member of the Iowa Rodeo Association, United Rodeo Association & Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. There is no way to count how many people or how much he taught those fortunate enough to know him. Already known for being the toughest cowboy around, he made history on July 26th, 2014 when, 42 years after he rode his first bull at the Wayne County fairgrounds and 16 years since he'd been on a bull, he returned to the arena to ride his final bull. As if he hadn't already inspired so many people, he was now a legend. Dug was a member of the Church of Christ in Unionville, Missouri. He'd encourage those around him with, 'Just mention the Lord to everyone you meet and let God do the rest.' He was very passionate about his faith and brought many people to the Lord. Dug is survived by Sharon Anderson of Corydon; daughter, Jesi Rose Fetters of Moravia; mother, Barb Fetters of Promise City; brother Danny Ray (Jane) Fetters of Oskaloosa; sisters, Debbie (Jack) Kovacevich of Rathbun and Darlann Fetters of Promise City; bonus brother, Roger 'Rod' (Lynn) Bennett of Stockton; three Grandsons; Coby, Sloan & Hudson Phillips; uncles Jerry (Virginia) Williams and Keith Fetters; many nieces & nephews and so many friends, all who loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his father Dwight Fetters; brother, Dennis Fetters and daughter, Shelby Phillips. Famous for that grin under his black cowboy hat, his smile was contagious and he truly never knew a stranger. Friends and family can join to celebrate his life & tip their hats one last time on what would have been his 55th birthday, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Randolph Funeral Home in Corydon with Reverend Terry Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in New York Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Randolph Funeral Home in Corydon. Memorials may be given to the family and condolences may be shared at www.randolphfuneralhome.com. 'It's been a great ride.' ~Dug Fetters Book Travel to Services To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Dug Fetters Obituary please visit our Sympathy Store.
