Duane Edwin Wood's Obituary
Duane Edwin Wood, age 80, of Centerville, Iowa, died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born the son of the late Floyd E. Wood and the late Osa L. (Caylor) Wood on February 17, 1925 near Unionville, Iowa. Duane attended Moravia High School, Moravia, Iowa.On May 19, 1946, he was united in marriage to Daphan Marie Coltrain in Centerville, Iowa. Duane and Daphan lived many years on their farm west of Centerville, Iowa where they farmed, raised angus cattle, sheep, and hogs. At the time of his death, Duane was Secretary-Treasurer of the Rathbun Regional Water Association, Bellair Township Trustee Chairman, and a board member of the Appanoose County Historical Society. In past years, he was a member of the Centerville Elks Club, had served many years as an Iowa State Real Estate Appraiser, on the Centerville Mercy Hospital Lay Board, the Appanoose County Health Board, a field assessor in the Appanoose County Assessor's Office, as well as working at the sale barns.Duane was preceded in death by: his parents.He is survived by: his wife, Daphan Wood; a sister, Freda Wilson, and her husband, Bill, of Blakesburg, Iowa; a brother, Keith Wood, and his wife, Susie, of Ankeny, Iowa; two nephews, James D. Wilson, of Blakesburg, Iowa and David D. Wood of Ankeny, Iowa; a niece, Diane Wood, of Ankeny, Iowa; a beloved sister-in-law, Edith Kendall; three great nieces; one great nephew; and many friends.Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 6, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa, with Rev. Jack Engle officiating. Burial will follow at the Moravia Town Cemetery, Moravia, Iowa.
