Dr. Willard "Bill" Vanderlinden's Obituary
Willard 'Bill' Vanderlinden age 78 of Centerville, Iowa, died, Monday October 25, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born the son of C.W. and Ruth (Beggs) Vanderlinden on June 11, 1932 in Confidence, Iowa. He was a graduate from Seymour High School in Seymour, Iowa in 1950 and also from the Iowa State School of Veterinary Medicine in 1956.On June 21, 1953 Bill was united in marriage to Marilyn Siglin in Seymour, Iowa. He spent 2 years in the Veterinary Corp in the Food Procurement Department for the US Army. After serving his country Bill and Marilyn moved to Henderson, Iowa and opened his vet practice as a large animal Veterinarian where he worked for the next 14 years. From 1972 - 1991 Bill farmed in the Seymour, Iowa area, then in 1991 he began working for the USDA in the meat inspection unit until his retirement in 1998. Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was a church trustee in Centerville, Iowa. He was also a member of the Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association, the Historical Society and spent countless hours volunteering his time in Appanoose County.Bill is preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Jean Hietink and JoAnn Vanderlinden.He is survived by: his wife, Marilyn Vanderlinden of Centerville, Iowa; sons, Scott O. and his wife, Tena Vanderlinden of Oak Harbour, Washington, Steven L. and his wife, Karen Vanderlinden of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Kirk A., and his wife, Debbie Vanderlinden of Numa, Iowa; daughters, Karen L. and her husband, Larry Steenhoek of Wilmington, Delaware, and Stacy J. and her husband, Dean Thomas of Centerville, Iowa; sister, Charlotte and her husband, Elmer Hysell of Colfax, Iowa; 20 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.A celebration of life will be held Friday, October 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Suzanne Gorhau officiating. A visitation will be held follow the service at the funeral home. His body has been donated to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clincis for research. A memorial has been established to the Iowa Barn Foundation or Appanoose County Historical Society and can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
