Dr. James Snyder's Obituary
Dr. James W. Snyder, age 65 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Jim was born April 27, 1948 in Elmo, Missouri, the son of David and Ruby (Wymore) Snyder. He married Sandy Marsh on April 26, 1969 in Hamburg, Iowa. Jim received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in May of 1975. Jim served in the United States Army following his graduation from dental school. He was a captain at Fort Bragg in North Carolina from 1975 to 1977. During this period of time, Jim practiced dentistry on the military base. Jim and Sandy relocated to Centerville, Iowa in August of 1977, and opened his dental practice located on the west side of the Centerville square. Jim served the community for thirty-six years. He was also very active in numerous organizations, including the Centerville Airport Commission, the Civil Service Commission, the Jaycees, and Mercy Hospital as a board member. Jim was a University of Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was a football season ticket holder for thirty-five years. He loved traveling, antiquing, studying the Civil War and reading about the mafia. Most importantly, Jim loved the time he was able to spend with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his mother, Ruby Wymore; his wife Sandy Snyder of Centerville, Iowa; two children, Dr. Stephanie Weber and her husband Brian of Savoy, Illinois, and Marcy Renoux and her husband Chad of Olathe, Kansas; two grandchildren, Alexandra and Hayden Renoux of Olathe, Kansas; two sisters, Mary Lou Perry of Hamburg, Iowa and Juanita Gates of Waldron, Missouri. Jim was preceded in death by his father David Snyder; and a sister, Alexa Lair. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville from 1-8 PM, with the family present from 6-8 PM on Tuesday evening. A private graveside service will be held in Dr. Snyder's honor. Memorials have been established to the James W. Snyder Memorial Fund and may be given to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544. Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.
