Douglas Jeffery Dickerson's Obituary
Douglas Jeffrey Dickerson, age 56 of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Friday, November 1, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Doug was born on March 12, 1957, the son of Melvin and Geraldine (Bruno) Dickerson. Doug grew up in Centerville and graduated from Centerville High School in 1975. He played lead guitar in a band in high school called ""Midnight Sounds."" It was also during high school when Doug first met and began dating Loretta. Doug and Loretta dated all through high school and then married on July 30, 1977 at the Nazarene Church in Centerville.
Following high school Doug worked for OM Wells Construction. In 1980 Doug, along with his friend, Jerry Finks, started their own plumbing business. He also worked for D&T Roofing. In 1998 Doug started working for Shade Tree, operating as general manager of the business. In 2008 he became a certified arborist and utility specialist. Doug's employment with Shade Tree spanned fifteen years. In 2012 Loretta and Doug opened the Time Out Lounge, located just off the west side of the Centerville Square on West State Street.
Doug first became a father when his twin daughters Jacki and Jessi were born on November 17, 1979. His son Dusty was born two years later on December 19, 1981. Doug was a devoted father, husband, grandfather and friend who left much to all those touched by him.
He loved being outdoors. Doug enjoyed camping and canoeing. But most of all, he enjoyed being with his family and loved ones. Doug was also a huge Iowa Hawkeye Fan. He had numerous talents, but to most, he was best known for his musical talents. Doug loved listening and playing music, especially the times he spent playing with his son-in-law Tony Varner and grandson Keyton.
