Dorthy Mae McIntire's Obituary
Dorthy Mae McIntire, 87, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at home surrounded by her family.
Dorthy (Dottie) was born August 9, 1934, in Promise City, IA. She was born to Charlie and Stella (Mosbey) DeVore and was the youngest of nine children. She married her high school sweetheart Charles Lee McIntire in 1952 and a few years later they moved to Des Moines. They had three children, Stephen, Michael, and Carla. Dorthy was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed vacations with her family, gardening, watching birds in the backyard, making grape jelly from her own grapevines and genealogy.
Dorthy is survived by her two sons, Stephen (Barb) McIntire, Michael (Cami Johnson) McIntire; daughter, Carla (Charles Goldman) McIntire of Urbandale, IA; sister, Betty (Rex) Peterson; grandchildren, Jill (Jeffrey) Buckner, Lynn (Jake) Holmes, Jessica McIntire; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Wyatt, and Ashton Buckner, Grayson Sloan, River Holmes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents; seven siblings; and grandson, Shane McIntire.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be directed to Can Do Multiple Sclerosis, the Diabetes Research Institute, or Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Dorthys life on Saturday October 30, 2021, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3600 75th Street Urbandale, IA 50322 from 1 3 pm. Funeral services for Dorthy will follow at 2 PM, Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. A visitation will take place on Sunday at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family receiving friends from 12-2 PM. Burial will follow the funeral service in the Jones Cemetery near Promise City, Iowa. Memorials may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, IA, 52544.
