Dorothy J. Zaputil's Obituary
Dorothy Jean Zaputil, 81 of Mystic died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Continental of St. Joseph's, Centerville, Iowa.
Dorothy was born August 18, 1924 in Mystic, Iowa the daughter of Monford and Jenni (Vandewyngaerd) Best.
She attended Mystic schools until her senior year when she moved to Waterloo, Iowa with her parents and graduated from Waterloo High School.
She married Joe Zaputil March 7, 1942 in Unionville, Missouri. He preceded her in death August 30, 2000.
She is survived by her two daughters, Patty Ballanger and her husband Frank of Promise City, IA, Jeanine Bankson and her husband Kevin of Centerville, IA, and five sons, Joe Jr. and his wife Diane, Tom and his wife Mary Sue, James and his wife Dorothy, and Rick and his wife Donna, all of Mystic, IA, Steve and his wife Deb of Albia, IA, one brother, Bill Best and his wife Gerry of Marshalltown, IA, two brothers-in-law, George Zaputil and his wife Betty and Tony Zaputil of Centerville, IA, two sisters-in-law, Anne Cerniglia and her husband Sam of San Diego, CA, and Linda Zaputil of Waterloo, IA, 20 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one great grandson.
Dorothy worked in the family businesses with her husband, Joe; Mystic Lumber Company, Big Five Coal Company and Falvey Lumber Company of Albia, Iowa. They also farmed and raised cattle for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa, Mystic Flower Club, Highland Cemetery Association of Mystic, Daughters of Union Veterans, Eastern Star Irene Chapter of Mystic, Mystic American Legion Auxiliary, Mystic PTA and St. Francis Women's Club.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and her greatest joy was her family and friends. She will be remembered for always having a smile and kind word for all.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 1:00 pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa with Father Ron Will, C.PP.S. officiating assisted by Pastor Jim Altmaier. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Mystic, Iowa. Visitation will be held at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa on Saturday April 1, 2006 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm with family present from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm followed by a prayer service at 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Highland Cemetery association of Mystic and may be left at or mailed to Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
