Dorothy Irene 'Penny' Starr, age 77, of Haysville, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born the daughter of Harvey and Mary (Dake) Pendleton on March 25, 1926 in Granite City, Illinois. She graduated from high school in Granite City, Illinois and later attended and graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa with a degree in Literature.Dorothy was united in marriage to Oris L. Starr on June 30, 1946 in Moulton, Iowa. She worked as the Head Bookkeeper at various banks and later worked as a tutor at the Public Library in Haysville, Kansas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Haysville, Kansas.Surviving family members include: two daughters, Beth Brigham and her husband, Don of Derby, Kansas and Valerie Slaughter and her husband, Roger of Haysville, Kansas; two sons, Dave Starr of Augusta, Kansas and Mark Starr of Mobile, Alabama; sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Oris L. Starr on March 28, 1996; her brother, Harold Pendleton and her sister, Harriet Juda.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2003 at 11:00 am at the Moulton Christian Church in Moulton, Iowa with Rev. Reg Higginbottom officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery west of Moulton, IA.Visitation will be held on Friday, December 5, 2003 from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton, IA.
