Today I decided to look up an old friend, and found she had passed away. My parents were great friends of Doc & Dorothy during the late 70s and 80s. We had a house boat called the Orange Crate and then the Orange Crate 2. I'd look Dorothy up at the lake when I came around. I recall so many good memories as a kid at Rathbun with Dorothy. I even got to spend the night at Dorothys house a number of times. I will always remember you Dorothy. The world is a better place because of people like you. I met Dorothy when Randy Kimple and I bought a house boat and put it on Lake Rathbun. Dorothy had a boat called The Leprechaun. She had had a few boats in her time but said she had been there from the firs starting of the lake. She had did Crappie Tournaments and was known by many people. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcome at the lake. We were a big happy family. Among our friends at the lake was Barbara Burress who became a closer family to Dorothy who said she had no living relative. We all became her family and will miss her.Wilma Jeane
I have many memories of Dorothy from my childhood. She and Doc were good friends of my parents. They took trips to Vegas and Hawaii, bowled in league together, Country Club dances and of course, since there were 6 of us kids, we had frequent trips to Docs office where Dorothy always spoiled us. I met Dorothy in 1998 when we bought a boat. I loved her right from the beginning. She became my boat mother. When I was at the lake on Mon & Tues we would go into Centerville on Mon night to the Pizza Hut then to Walmart then go back to my boat and watch TV. Anything I cooked, Dorothy like. Some time's we would go over to the North Dock n visit Kris on his boat the J&K. Always had fun visiting with Kris. All of my family and friends who met Dorothy liked her from the beginning. Dorothy was part of our family and we will miss her very much. Love you Dorothy Jean. Rest in Eternal Peace!
