Dorothy Jeraldine Schaffner's Obituary
Dorothy Jeraldine "Jerry" Schaffner, 95, of Hermann, MO, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Victorian Place, Hermann, Missouri, surrounded by her devoted family members.
Jerry was born in Moravia, Iowa on October 27, 1928, the daughter of the late John L. & Ruby E. (Foster) Hiner.
She was the widow of Horace Schaffner. They were united in marriage on June 1, 1946, in Albia, Iowa. Together they shared 44 wonderful years of marriage. Horace preceded her in death on May 27, 1991.
Jerry was a member of Warrenton Christian Church, Warrenton, Missouri. She was a former member of the Central Christian Church in O'Fallon, Illinois, where she also served as the director for their pre-school. She was a very devote Christian and was very involved in her church and activities.
Jerry was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. She enjoyed watching game shows, walking, sight-seeing and especially spending time with her family.
Jerry is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Kinion & husband Kent, of Madison, Alabama; daughter, Dorcas Ruff & husband Gary, of Chamois, Missouri; son, Daniel Schaffner & wife Sue, of La Porte, Colorado; daughter, Debbie Miller & husband Dr. Bill, of Hermann, Missouri, a close friend, Carli Schaffner, of Ankney, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hiner, of Rock Island, Iowa; Mary Schaffner, of Seymour, Iowa and Linda Schaffner, of Omaha, Nebraska, 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers, John, Max and Pearl Hiner.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 25th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home in Hermann, where funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will also be held Saturday, April 27th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, Moravia, Iowa, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Main Station Cemetery near Moravia, Iowa. Memorial donations may be given to Gentiva Hospice or Main Station Cemetery, and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Schaffner family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
