Dorothy Marie Powell's Obituary
Dorothy Marie Powell, of Udell, Iowa, went Home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the age of 87.
Born Dorothy Elschlager on August 5, 1930 in Lancaster, Missouri, the only child of Elmer and Cora Elschlager, she graduated from Lancaster High School in 1949, and then moved to Centerville, Iowa.
Dorothy was employed by Fuller Manufacturing Company as a secretary. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Powell of Udell on October 28, 1951. The couple made their home in Selma, Alabama, where Lawrence served in the United State Air Force until April of 1953.
They farmed in the Udell area for sixty years, and had three children: David (Sharon) of Udell, Doug (Kim) of Kansas City, Missouri and Charlotte (Larry) near Lincoln, Nebraska. Dorothy came to faith in Jesus as her Savior at the age of 17. She taught Sunday School for many years, and enjoyed gardening, yard work, lawn mowing, and house cleaning.
Dorothy had been living at Homestead Assisted Living in Centerville since May of 2016, where she was currently residing.
She was preceded in death by her son, Doug; a grandson, Joseph; as well as her parents.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Lawrence; a son, David; her daughter, Charlotte; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Jesse Hill officiating. A committal service will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, near Unionville, Iowa. A visitation will take place on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 5-7 PM.
