Dorothy Coleen McIntire's Obituary
Dorothy Coleen (Collins) McIntire was born December 1, 1929 on a farm five miles west of Seymour, Wayne County, Iowa to Robert Franklin and Martha Ruth (Long) Collins, and passed away on May 4, 2025 at Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, Missouri.
Born during the depression and drought years, living through World War II when families and neighbors were close and had to make their own fun, she soon learned to play cards, dance, fish, and hunt. There were always cousins and neighbor children to play with. She attended the first five years of school at the Kiffen Country School. The family moved close to Seymour in 1940 where she attended the Seymour School graduating in 1948. Her cousin Jim Scheafer spent summers with the family and later made his home with them. Jim and Dorothy were closer than most brothers and sisters. Living before computers, TVs, cell phones, etc. The family spent a lot of time together playing, working, and laughing. She considered herself lucky to have lived in a time when family came first. It was a happy carefree time.
September 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to Daryl Creed McIntire. They moved to the family farm where they worked side-by-side. In 1953 she became an Army wife for two years before they resumed farming. January 14, 1957 a son Scottie Lee McIntire was born. He was the light of her life. She was so proud of his accomplishments and the grandchildren he gave her.
In 1980, they sold the farms and moved to Mountain Home Arkansas. She and Daryl traveled a lot hunting, fishing, and sightseeing but always ended up in Iowa to see the family. She adored her three grandchildren and her four great grandchildren.
She was a member of the First United Church of Mountain Home, Arkansas. She believed GOD was always beside her to help with whatever trials she had to face during her life and her 70 years of marriage.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Scott and his wife Jan; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and special cousin, James Scheafer.
She is preceded in death by her husband Daryl; and her parents.
A private family graveside service will take place at Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to Furever Friends of Appanoose Inc., in honor of her and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: McIntire Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
