Dorothy Burgher's Obituary
Dorothy Burgher, age 95 of Longmont, Colorado, formerly of Centerville, Iowa, died Thursday evening, May 30, 2013. She was born on January 16, 1918 in rural Exline, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Cecil (Freeborn) Probasco. Dorothy was raised in rural Exline and graduated from CHS with the Class of 1936. Following graduation, Dorothy taught rural, country school south of Exline. Dorothy married Wendell Burgher on May 10, 1938 in Princeton, MO and to this union, two children were born, Patricia and Louis. Following their wedding, Wendell and Dorothy resided in Centerville. Wendell owned and operated the Centerville Sale Barn for several years. In the mid 1950s, they moved to McCook, Nebraska where Dorothy taught special education in the public schools until her retirement. After retirement, Wendell and Dorothy moved to Omaha, Nebraska. Wendell passed away in December of 1987. Dorothy lived in Omaha until she relocated with her daughter Pat and husband Dr. Robert Gillespie to Longmont, Colorado. Dorothy was a devout member of the First Methodist Church in Longmont. In her free time she enjoyed sewing, gardening and her Grandchildren. She was a member of TTT. She is survived by her children, Patricia (Dr Robert) Gillespie of Longmont, Colorado and Dr. Louis (Susan) Burgher of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Wendell; her parents; a brother Max (Marietta) Probasco; a sister Ruth (Charles) Gradwell; a sister-in-law Naomi (Harley) Epperson; and a nephew Jim Gradwell. A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville from 10-11 AM. A procession from Lange Funeral Home to Oakland Cemetery in Centerville will take place at 11 AM on Tuesday for a graveside service with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. Memorials have been established to the American Red Cross or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation and may be given to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
