Dorman L Irwin's Obituary
Dorman L. Irwin, age 94, of Melrose, Iowa, died Monday, June 13, 2016, at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born the son of Oswald and Fern (Wignall) Irwin on March 1, 1922 near Melrose, Iowa. He graduated from the Melrose Community High School. Dorman entered the United State Army on August 2, 1944 and served during WWII until his Honorable Discharge on July 1, 1946 when he earned a Purple Heart for his service. On March 14, 1948, Dorman was united in marriage to Velma Jean Hammond in Albia, Iowa. He was a farmer in the Melrose area and also worked for John Morrell Company in Ottumwa, Iowa from 1947 until 1973. He attended the Brushy Christian Church north of Plano, Iowa.He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Velma Jean Irwin on March 27, 2010; his daughter, Linda Proctor on July 25, 2015.Dorman was survived by: his son, Larry Irwin and his wife, Cathy of The Villages, Florida; sister, Velma Powell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son-in-law, Jim Proctor of Melrose, Iowa; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.Graveside services will be held at 10 am, Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Brushy Cemetery north of Plano, Iowa with full military honors. No visitation is planned and memorials can be made to HCI Care Services and left or mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa.
