Dorla Horn's Obituary
Dorla Dean Horn, age 83, passed peacefully on Friday August 10, 2018. She was born in Moulton, IA the daughter of Edwin and Eva (Swarts) Piatt on July 29, 1935. Dorla was the 3rd oldest child of seven children. Dorla spent her whole life in Moulton, Iowa. After graduating from Moulton-Udell School, Dorla found the love of her life and was united in marriage to Ward Stuart Daniels on June 12, 1953 in Centerville, Iowa. Together, they lived on a family farm south of Moulton and started a family. They were raising two children when their lives together were cut short by a tragic tractor accident on August 18, 1971. Dorla went on to raise her children alone while working at Moulton-Udell Schools as a cook and later worked at the Centerville factory formally known as Viskase until retiring. She was able to find love with Fredrick D. Horn and wed November 11, 1983 in Moulton. Fredrick passed on June 22, 2010. Dorla was dearly loved. She had a camera ready, contagious and beautiful smile. She enjoyed spending time and eating with her family and friends, sipping on Cherry Pepsi/Coke, shopping, sewing, bird watching, cooking and baking. Her potato salad, baked beans, lasagna and brownies were just a few of her specialty items. She enjoyed babysitting for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending their events. She also had an ornery side that her grandchildren would often encounter. Dorla was also very passionate about the restoration of the Oakland Cemetery in Moulton. She spent many hours trying to raise funds and helped to ensure the upkeep of the cemetery. Dorla was preceded in death by: first husband, Ward Stuart Daniels; a sister, Sharon Harris; parents, Edwin and Eva Piatt; and second husband, Fredrick Horn. Dorla is survived by: daughter, Sonya (Steve) McKaig of Raleigh, NC; son, Ron (Susan) Daniels of Unionville, MO; stepdaughter, Denise Huff (Rob Alongi) of Columbia, MO; stepdaughter, Diane (Wayne) of Columbia, MO; stepson, Roger (Pat) of Bloomington, IL; siblings: Shirley (Robert) Singley, Donna Young, Connie White, Larry (Cheryl) Piatt, Terry (Judy) Piatt; grandchildren: Tiffany (Mark) Danley, Felicia (Clayton) Daniels, Lauren Jones, Erin Jones, Mindy Huff, Jennifer Fitzwater, Janelle Edwards, Lucas and Evan Horn; great grandchildren: Merrik, Myron, Marshall and Maxen Danley, Kaden and Gracen Daniels, Kylee and Logan Walters, and Easton Kerkaert; and Janet Daniels who was like a daughter. Dorla also had several additional step grandchildren and great step grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well. Funeral services will be held at the Thomas Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 10:30a.m. with Kay Singley officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Moulton. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 12th with family present from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa. Memorials have been established to the Oakland Cemetery Restoration in Moulton, Iowa and the HCI Hospice of Centerville.
