Doris Mae Seat's Obituary
Doris Seat, age 94 of Centerville, went to be with the Lord on February 13, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.
Doris was born on January 29, 1932 in Wheatland, Indiana to parents Glenn and Velma (Wilson) Armes. Doris was one of six children and the eldest daughter. After her high school graduation Doris went to work for the Jack Hayes Attorneys office. Later she worked in the office of the United States Rubber Co.
Doris met the love of her life, David M. Seat, and they were married in April 20, 1952 at the First Baptist Church of Washington, Indiana. The ceremony was performed by Reverend Dr. William R. Seat, David's father.
They became parents of three children: David Martin Seat Jr., Eric Douglas Seat and Pamela Anne Seat.
David worked for J.C. Penney Co and was transferred from Charleston, Illinois to Centerville. David and Doris liked Centerville really well so they decided to stay and raise their children here.
Doris was involved in all her children's activities; from being a leader in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts to a Teacher in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Church Christian Board, Flower Committee, and Condolence Committee all at the First Baptist Church. She was also a member of PEO Chapter KA, Eastern Star Chapter 239, and Mercy Medical Hospital Auxiliary.
Doris enjoyed many things in life. She loved to bake and cook for her family and also sew and make quilts for them. She loved reading and playing Bridge, working in her yard and garden. When she got together with her sisters they had fun going shopping! Doris and David were the owners of the Village Sewing Shoppe for many years. Doris later had her own alteration business which she also enjoyed.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents Velma and Glenn Armes, sisters Jackie Smith and Nancy Wright, brother Richard Armes, and precious grandson Wyatt Seat.
Doris is survived by her children, David (Kathy) of Ottumwa, Eric (Mick) of Centerville, Pam (Delbert) of Centerville. Grandchildren, Amber D. Winn, Adam Whisler (Esmie), and Patrick Whisler. Three Great-Grandchildren, Carley and Chale Winn and Ian Whisler. Sisters, Marilyn Friedman and Peggy Aldridge of Washington, Indiana, Also 19 nieces and nephews and several Great nieces and nephews, along with many dear friends.
The visitation for Doris will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from 10:00AM-11:00AM at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. A funeral service will be held after the Visitation at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville starting at 11:00AM. A private burial service will take place at Oakland Cemetery after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to either of the following: Furever Friends Rescue or Wounded Warrior Project.
