Doris Hazel Kennedy's Obituary
Doris Hazel Kennedy, age 84 of Centerville died on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of George I. and Nancy E. (Vesper) Kennedy on December 24, 1922 in Centerville, Iowa. She received her education in the Centerville Community Schools.During World War II, Doris was employed by North American Aviation in Kansas City, Missouri. Being of small stature Doris was assigned the job of crawling into the tail of the planes to do the complicated and intricate wiring necessary. After the war, Doris was employed by Bendix Corporation in Kansas City. During her time there she was chosen to work in the 'Inner Circle'. This was a very sensitive job where confidentiality was of utmost importance. Doris took an oath not to divulge the activity to which she was assigned, and to this day she never did. Doris returned to Centerville to care for her aging parents. In addition to caring for her parents Doris worked for Viskase Corporation from which she retired after 20 years. Doris loved children and animals. She could not resist taking in homeless cats and caring for them. She called them her children and they were a great comfort to her.She was preceded in death by: her parents; a sister, Mary Martha Kennedy; brothers, Delmar, George N. and Gerald E. Kennedy.Doris is survived by: a sister, Juanita Allen of Lemar, Missouri; nieces and nephews, Joyce Ann Graeme of St. Joseph, Missouri, Nola Graham, Daryl Allen of Oak Leaf, Texas, Karen Ann Allen of Topeka, Kansas, Marti Lu of Orem, Utah, James Allen of Lenexa, Kansas, Randall Allen of Springfield, Missouri; several great nieces and nephews.Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2006 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Joan White officiating. Burial will be held in the Oakland Cemetery following the services.
