Doris Mae Houser's Obituary
Doris Mae Houser, age 89, of Moulton, Iowa, died Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Glenn Mitchell and Nora Nevada (Wages) Fry on April 17, 1920 near Exline, Iowa. She graduated from the Exline Community Schools in 1937. She joined the Exline Methodist Church as a young girl. After graduation, Doris worked for Houser Dairy, bottling milk; later she would teach school at Bee Trace School - a one room country schoolhouse northwest of Moulton.On February 24, 1940, Doris was united in marriage to Donald V. Houser in the Sheriff's office in what they would later call a 'Shotgun' wedding as there were shotguns all around the walls in the office. They would farm together east of Centerville, Iowa along highway 2. Later in 1944, they would purchase a farm northwest of Moulton, Iowa. She was a 4-H leader for many years; was a member of the Moulton United Methodist Women and also enjoyed her time at the Crosslines Center in Moulton. She was always a prolific letter writer - sending cards and letters to friends and family far and wide.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Donald V. Houser on January 1, 1996; son, Donald Houser, Jr. on February 25, 1999; sisters, Wilma Daniels, Dorothy Banks and Alfreda Wolver; brothers, Glenn Mitchell Fry, Jr., Wilbur Fry and Alfred Fry.Doris's family always came first, they include: her daughters, Linda and her husband, Larry Newland of Stilwell, Kansas and Connie and her husband, Floyd Swarts of Moulton, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Lois Houser of Elkhart, Indiana; six grandchildren, Todd and his wife, Jenn Newland of Cary, North Carolina, Julie and her husband, Joe Walsh of DeForest, Wisconsin, Chris and his wife, Sheri Houser of South Bend, Indiana, Paul and his wife, Chandra Swarts of Centerville, Iowa, Kirk and his wife, Abby Swarts of Moulton, Iowa and Rochelle Swarts of Marion, Iowa; as well as eleven great grandchildren.Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 11 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Reg Higginbottomofficiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 22, 2010 from 1 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to either the Crosslines Center in Moulton or to the Mt..
