Doris B. Hampton's Obituary
Doris Hampton, age 93, of Centerville, Iowa, died Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Homestead Assisted Living in Centerville. She was the daughter of Emil and Ava Long, born January 30, 1923, near Mystic, Iowa. Doris graduated from Moravia Community High School in Moravia, Iowa.Doris was united in marriage to Doyle E. Hampton on June 15, 1941. She was a wonderful homemaker and assisted in the many chores and activities on the family farm as she raised their family of three boys. She was an avid sports fan and attended her sons' many sporting events through the years. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed the family trips to St. Louis, as well as listening and watching them and the Iowa Hawkeyes on radio and TV. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville.Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2002, their son, Donald in 1972 and brothers Darl and Billy Long.Doris is survived by her sons Ronald Hampton and wife, Sally of Urbandale, Iowa, and Mike Hampton and his wife, Anita of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville with the Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services with the family present. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Appanoose County Fair or the Haines Cemetery and mailed to the funeral home.
