Doris J. Ervin's Obituary
Doris Jean Phillips Ervin, 76, of Centerville, left this life on Thursday, September 1, 2005 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was born on April 4, 1929 in Centerville to Marshall and Verna Winans Phillips. Doris was united in marriage to Sherman Ervin on April 5, 1947 at the First Methodist Church in Centerville. To this marriage four children were born.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She leaves behind three daughters; Linda (Gene) Swan of West Des Moines; Deb (Don) Hastings of New London; Kathy (Carlo) Cossolotto of Centerville, and a son Duane Ervin of Rathbun. Doris is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and her special friend John McDanolds.
Doris worked for 37 years at the Centerville Hy-Vee, she never knew a stranger. She was truly the ""Smile in every isle"" that Hy-Vee bragged about. Doris was a very active member of the community. She had lived all of her life in Centerville and knew many, many people and called them friends. She was a member of the King Fisher Class of the First Methodist Church and Hospital Auxiliary.
Visitation will be Monday, September 5, 2005 from 1-8 PM with the family present from 6-8 PM at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, Centerville, Iowa. A celebration of life service will be held at the First Methodist Church on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 10 AM. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati. A memorial has been established to the John Stoddard Cancer Center or the Christian Opportunity Center in Pella, Iowa and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
