Donnie Kirkland's Obituary
Donnie Wayne Kirkland, 80, of Cincinnati, Iowa passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018. Donnie was born on December 22, 1937 in Wayne County, Iowa to Clyde L. and Leona (Hawk) Kirkland. He graduated with the class of 1957 from Cincinnati High School where he excelled in basketball and baseball and later when he played men's softball where he pitched and played left field for the Cincinnati (Iowa) Reds. Donnie was united in marriage to Jean Golick on June 20, 1959 and they celebrated 56 wonderful years together before her passing. In his early years, Donnie engaged in farming and worked on the building of Rathbun Lake. He also worked with Union Carbide/Viskase before retiring after 32 years. He enjoyed his huge garden every year and attending his grandkids' ball games. Donnie is survived by his children: David (Lori) Kirkland and Debbie Tait, all of Cincinnati; grandchildren: Kacey Kirkland, Trent (Amanda) Kirkland, Megan (Ivan) Miller, all of Centerville and Tyler Tait of Cincinnati; great grandchildren: Harrison and Evalyn Kirkland, Viktor and LiLiya Miller and Olivia Tait. He is also survived by his siblings: Gary Kirkland of Centerville and Bonnie Besse of Davenport and brother-in-law, John Golick of Lake Villa, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; brothers: Ronald, Raymond and Leslie Kirkland and sisters: Audrey Kirkland, Bertha Brown and Doris Raskie. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati.
