Unfortunately, it has been more than 10 years since I have gotten to see Uncle Don and Aunt Vera. They were living in Texas then. We had a great visit. I only stayed for a couple of days but each day they would show me another part of their HUGE rock collection. Every night after dinner we would walk through the neighborhood. They were so sweet with each other. Each one taking care of the other. Its hard to believe 10 years have past. I have a few pictures from that trip that I will try to post on here. I am Leslie Riggle's daughter. The last time I saw Uncle Don, he came out to visit my parents with Aunt Vera, He took me for a ride in his van, I had just gotten my drivers license. He said I was a great driver for being a woman (his sense of humor) He was a great man, and I will miss him dearly. I love you Aunt Vera and I will keep you in my prayers. I will miss his little letters he wrote on the Christmas cards each year. If you need anything, Im just a phone call away. Posted by Nicole Hunt - Rockford, IL - Niece October 16, 2012
Uncle DonAunt Vera have been Heros. They have gone through so much in thier livesmarriage. They have always come out stronger. Everything from iding in the trucks Uncle Don would bring throug to deliver in MoKS. To letting my sister Bonnie stay with them for a while. Great sense of humor. Wisdom on politics. We will certainly hold on to his memory forever. Posted by Les Riggle - Winnebago, IL - Nephew October 16, 2012
We had the pleasure of meeting Don & Vera when Dave's wife Ruby passed and was buried in Waynsboro, Tn. Ruby was Gilbert's Aunt. They were a wonderful couple enjoyed them staying our home at this time. The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged (Deuteronomy 318) We will be praying for you, Vera. Posted by gilbert & LeFan Cole - Waynesboro, TN - friend October 17, 2012
I was VERY sad to hear of Don's passing. Don and Vera moved in across the street from my parents on North Park and our neighborhood immediately improved. Don was always out walking with their cat (Ham), who I think might have been an offshoot of one of our cats back in the day. The way he looked after our neighbor Russell and helped him was inspiring. His trips up and down the road started the North Park information chain! He'd get information from one neighbor and relay it to another. As a result I think we were all a bit more in touch with our neighbors than before and it improved our sense of community! Don was a jokester with a great grin. My daughter Abby still treasures the fluffy white cat that moves and makes noise that Don and Vera gave her. Vera - I'm sending you strength and love during this difficult time.
