Donald "Pid" Pidcock's Obituary
Pid Pidcock, 101 of Corydon passed away, Friday, June 21, 2019 at Corydon Specialty Care. Donald "Pid" Elbert Pidcock was born on October 15, 1917 in Beaconsfield, Iowa to George & Ethel (Manning) Pidcock. He received his education from Beaconsfield High School, graduating in 1935 and then went to Iowa Barber School in Des Moines graduating in 1937. On April 28, 1940, Pid was united in marriage to Thelma Bettis; she preceded him in death on November 3, 2010. To this union came two children: Don and Doris. Pid was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He worked for the United States Postal Service for twenty years as a mail carrier and did farming at the same time. He also worked on his own as a barber for twenty plus years mostly in Corydon. He retired in 1981. Pid enjoyed arrowhead hunting, working on the Mormon Trail, woodworking and like any barber, he enjoyed telling stories. He was very proud of the awards he received in connection with his research of local history; the Pioneer Mormon Trail and for locating the campsite where the song "Come, Come, Ye Saints was written. Pid's family was his life's treasure and spending time with them, especially with his grandchildren, brought him so much joy. Survivors include his daughter, Doris Moore, grandchildren: Chrissy Moore and Thelma Moore, great grandchildren: Kelsey Maize, Shayla Maize, Zayden Crosby, Lacey Davis, Jennifer Hallett, great great grandchildren: Liam Hallett, Nash Hallett, step grandchildren: Duane Pitt, Bill Pitt and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Pidcock, son, Donald Pidcock, brother, Hugh Pidcock and sister, Dorine Jones. Graveside service with full military honors will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Corydon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Corydon United Methodist Church or Prairie Trails Museum in Corydon and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
