Donald Foster Miner Obituary's Obituary
Donald Foster Miner was born in Salem, Illinois on February 28, 1928 to Agnes (Barva) Pigg and passed away on Friday June 16th at the age of 83, at the Continental Care Center in Seymour. Don's mother Agnes later married William (Chet) Miner and they moved to the family farm west of Cambria where he was raised. Donald fell in love and married his neighbor girl, Deloris Maxine Sloan, on June 3rd 1950. He and Deloris made a living on the farm for 58 years and in 2002 were honored with a Century Farm Award. Many frog legs and fish fries were held at the farm with the extended Barva and Miner families, and oh what stories were told. His greatest love was his family. He had a special bond with his great grandson Austin. Don never knew a stranger. He enjoyed ball games with his buddy Glen Smith, camping at Allerton, Corydon, and at the State Fair, which they attended for over 50 years. He also enjoyed fishing on the river with his Cambria buddies, fishing in the farm ponds with his grandchildren, playing cards and telling stories, going out for supper on Friday nights, and an occasional trip to the casinos. One of Don's favorite things was to torment his mother-in-law about her cooking and politics. Don attended Cambria school until his junior year and then joined the service. He spent 18 months in the service, nine of which were spent in the Philippines as a surveyor. Don was preceded in death by his wife Deloris, parents Agnes and William (Chet) Miner, brother Armond Leroy and wife Marie Miner, brother and sister-in-law Mardeth and Bernadine Sloan, nephew Richard (Spick) Sloan, and niece Kay Gillaspy. Left to treasure his memory are his three children, Linda Miner of Chariton, Jim and Brenda Miner of Cambria, and Sherry and Jon Trower of Corydon. Five grandchildren: Jacob Miner, Stefanie Miner and friend Ryan Wallace, Matthew Miner, Ashley and Adam Hysell, and Brandon and Heidi Trower; Great-grandchildren Austin Miner, Allissi Trower, and baby Hysell to be; step brothers and their wives, Bill and Gert Miner, Jack and Marilyn Miner, and step sister Dorothy Stephens, and many special nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the family to be decided at a later date.
