Donald L. Scott, 76 of Seymour passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Don was born on September 16, 1931 to Jasper & Icle(Milburn) Scott in Rathbun, Iowa. He received his education from Centerville High School, graduating in 1948. Don married Marilyn Espy on May 31, 1953 at the Centerville Church of the Nazarene. Early in his life, Don was a coal miner and then moved to a rural line engineer. He would then take a job at Iowa Telephone Company, (now Iowa Telecom). In 1978 Don opened his shoe repair shop, Scott's Shoe Repair. He served two terms as Centerville Mayor starting in 1982. Don and his family then went to Scranton, PA where he made Vinyl windows. He retired in 1993 and moved back to the Centerville area. During his retirement he worked for a window factory in Leon and was the maintenance man for the Seymour Care Center. Don was a member of the Elks Lodge in Centerville and the Iowa Lions Club. He was a superb husband, fabulous father and even greater grandfather. Don is survived by his wife Marilyn of Seymour, two children, Diane Van Dyne(Randy) of Centerville and Melissa Long of Mystic, five grandchildren, Danica Daily of Des Moines, Donald & Dakota Van Dyne of Centerville and Kevin & Kassandra Long of Mystic, six brothers; Bill(Dolly) Scott of Davenport, Jim Scott of Montezuma, Paul(April) Scott of Pueblo, CO, John(Rita) Scott of Enon, OH, Dan(Bev) Scott of Tipton, Iowa and Mike of Reno, NV, one sister, Rachel(Kenny) Britt of Goodyear, AZ and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Bob and Teddy Scott. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 1 at Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Walter King officiating. Visitation will be all day Monday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home. Interment will be in Haines Cemetery, North of Centerville.
